Advanced Verification comes first
Google restricts locksmith ads in the United States and Canada. Until an advertiser completes Advanced Verification, its ads are not eligible to appear on searches related to locksmith services. The process combines a review of the Google Ads account with checks of public data such as state registrations and professional licenses, and it includes a recorded video interview.
Prepare your business registration, any state locksmith license and a real, staffed business address before you apply. Lead-generation setups that cannot show who does the work are exactly what the process is designed to filter out.
Why US locksmith clicks cost less than you would expect
Locksmith bids top out around $15.00, far below plumbers or roofers, and "locksmith cost" sits at only $1.60 to $5.76. One likely reason is the verification barrier, which keeps out many of the advertisers who drive prices up in unrestricted markets; in France, where no such check applies, the core locksmith term reaches 29.79 euros. Treat the low prices as an advantage of being verified, not as a reason to loosen targeting.
Local Services Ads: no shortcut for locksmiths
Locksmiths are a Local Services Ads category, but Google excludes them from pre-badge ads, which let some businesses receive leads before finishing screening. A locksmith has to complete the full process before the listing runs. Once live, LSA charges per lead and shows the Google Verified badge, so run it alongside your Search campaign.
Lockouts, rekeys and commercial work
Lockouts are urgent and phone-driven; rekeys and deadbolt installs are planned and price-checked; commercial work (master key systems, access control, panic hardware) brings recurring accounts. Give each a separate ad group, and a separate campaign for commercial so weekday business hours get their own schedule and budget.
If you do automotive work, keep car lockouts and key fob programming in their own group: the searches, the tools and the margins differ from residential calls.
Calls are the conversion
Google no longer allows new call-only ads, and existing ones stop serving in February 2027, so use responsive search ads with call assets. Count calls over 60 seconds, schedule ads only when someone answers, and quote a price range on the phone: customers who were burned by bait-and-switch pricing reward the locksmith who is upfront.
