Builders, service companies and remodelers
New construction, weekly service and remodeling are separate businesses. A new inground pool is a long, high-ticket sale; resurfacing and tile replacement are mid-size projects; cleaning and repair are recurring, low-ticket routes. Each needs its own campaign, landing page and conversion value.
Google draws the same line: Pool contractor and Pool cleaner are distinct Local Services Ads categories in the US. Choose the one that matches the leads you want, or both if you run both divisions.
A long, seasonal sales cycle
Families want to swim by summer, so serious inquiries start in late winter and early spring, months before installation. Front-load the construction budget in that window, keep design consultations as your main conversion, and upload signed contracts later as offline conversions. In warm states the season is longer, but the spring rush still sets the year.
What the keyword data shows
"pool builder cost" is the bargain at $1.52 to $7.92 for 100 to 1K searches: early researchers who need a page with real price ranges by pool type and size. "local pool builder" (100 to 1K) reaches $33.98, and "pool builder company" is labeled Low competition despite bids up to $31.97. Every variant is expensive enough that broad, unfiltered traffic will hurt.
Negatives: carpools, cues and inflatables
"pool" is one of the noisiest words in search. It matches carpools, pool tables and cues, pool parties, public pool hours, lifeguard jobs and a well-known superhero film. It also matches above-ground and inflatable pools and chemical supplies. Build these negatives before launch and keep generic pool terms in exact or phrase match.
Qualify on budget and backyard
A construction lead is only worth a design visit if the budget and the yard fit. Ask for budget range, yard access for equipment and target timeline in the form, and score leads before booking a visit. Feeding qualified consultations back to Google Ads teaches bidding which searches bring real buyers.
